Furlough-ed
Some good news from the dying newspaper industry: I’m on furlough.
None of us even knew what furlough meant until we got an inter-office email marked “Urgent.”
My co-worker said, “Isn’t a furlough something you plow into a field?”
Our boss didn’t think it was funny.
It means we have to take off 10 days of unpaid vacation leave.
But so far?
I love it.
I’ve had two furlough days so far. I’ve done the following:
1. Chased my son up and down the street
2. Caught a Johnny Cash cover band at the pool
3. Drawn with chalk
4. Gone on long walks
5. Wrote for longer than five minutes before work
6. Read a book (Tana French’s Into the Woods. It was awesome).
Sweet Jesus, furlough, I think I love you.
